SNAIL ISLAND
INTRODUCTION
The province of Sihanoukville, named in Khmer Krong Preah Sihanouk, or even sometimes Kompong Som, is a small province extending over approximately 870 km² divided into four districts in which are distributed around 197,000 people:

- Kompong Seila

A good half of the inhabitants of the province of Sihanoukville count agriculture among their main activities, of which 10% are related to fishing. The rest of the local population is involved in service trades, commerce, transport, ..., a high average in comparison with the rest of the country, probably linked to the strong tourist activity of the seaside resort, and to the presence of Cambodia's only deep-water port, located less than 4 hours by road from Phnom Penh, which also explains the fairly large presence of industrial factories all around the city.

The beaches of Sihanoukville:
Serendipity and Ochheuteal beaches, accessible from downtown Kompong Som in a few minutes. The first is accessed via a small road now lined with shops, guest houses and bistros, the second stretches for a good two km to the east. These two beaches are probably the most popular and the most frequented, bordered by thatched huts serving as bar-restaurants, and most of which provide sun loungers and umbrellas.

By continuing a little more, and after having passed a small hill, we find ourselves on the beach of Otres, formerly devoid of any tourist structure. The huts and guest houses have made their appearance, but in a quieter atmosphere than the beaches of Serendipity and Ochheuteal.
Sokha beach, operated by the hotel of the same name, will be accessible free of charge for hotel guests, paying for those simply wishing to enjoy the well-maintained beach, swimming pools and other accommodations made available by the hotel. .
To the north, Independance Beach, named in Khmer Pram Pi Chann, stretches for one or two km, and offers one of the quietest seaside spots in Sihanoukville.
Going up again, Victory beach, at the foot of Victory Hill, another tourist area with a multitude of bars, restaurants and guesthouses a little back from the beach.
Kbal Chhay waterfall:
About 15 km north of Sihanoukville, the Kbal Chhay waterfall, which marks the meeting point of three sources, has become a tourist center much appreciated by locals, who like to go there to relax with friends or family on traditional festivals and public holidays.
The islands :
It is possible to go for a walk on some of the islands -Koh Ta Khiev, Koh Russey (Bamboo Island), located off Sihanoukville, although they tend to come one after the other in the bosom of private investors. development plan more ambitious than the others.
Ream National Park:
Ream Park, located approximately 20 km from Sihanoukville, covers an area of approximately 20,000 hectares, of which almost a third is in the marine environment.
