The province of Siem Reap, covers approximately 10,300 km², north-east of Tonlé Sap. The eponymous prefecture, the starting point for visiting the temples of Angkor, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is approximately 350 km from the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.

The population of the province approaches 950,000 inhabitants in 12 districts, of which nearly 200,000 just for Siem Reap - city - and its surroundings.
