INTRODUCTION
The province of Kratie, with an area of over 11,000 km², crossed by the Mekong, had a total population of 331,592 in 2010. It is administratively divided into 6 districts:
- Chhlong - Sambor
- Chetr Borei - Snuol
- Preaek Prasap - Kracheh (Kratie)
80% of the population derives their income from agriculture, of which a little more than 60% live more specifically from rice growing. The district of Kratie, including the prefecture-level city of the province, is more than 75% connected to the electricity grid, a figure which falls quite drastically in the rest of the province.

There is a relatively large presence of families from indigenous minorities, including Phnong ព្នង (about 4% of the population of Kratie), traditionally settled in Mondolkiri, Kouy កួយ, Stieng ស្ទៀង, Mil មិ ល, Kraol ក្រោល Thmon ថ្ម ន and Khaogn ខោ ញ.
The Chams, otherwise known as Khmers Islam, settled along the Mekong River make up about 5% of the province's inhabitants.
