Beer is probably the most consumed alcohol in Cambodia, which also appears to be the largest beer consuming country (per person / year) in Southeast Asia.
This is evidenced by the surprising size of the offer, both in international beers (ABC, Singha, Heineken, Tiger, San Miguel…), and local (Angkor, Phnom Penh, Bayon, Kingdom beer… and the latest, Cambodia beer).
Angkor beer is brewed in Sihanoukville, while there are different production sites around Phnom Penh for Tiger (in Kien Svay), Kingdom beer and Cambodia beer (towards Choeung Aek, on the road to Takhmau).
There are light blond beers as well as some dark beers, such as ABC or Angkor Stout. Other beers, also local, consumed mainly in the countryside, such as Klang and Black Panther, have a higher alcoholic strength.
A habit that will probably surprise you, we often add to beer… ice cubes to make it very cold. Thus, in the beer-gardens, these outdoor restaurants open in the evening and where we come with friends to nibble a few dishes, sing a little song as well as to drink, the beer-throwers, dressed in their brand colors, will sometimes fill your glass, sometimes add large ice cubes, which will help you keep your mind fresh throughout the evening!
The majority of these beers are available in 33 cl cans, in small and large bottles, some on tap.
Count between 2,500 and 3,500 riel per can.
